
The program reads the signature from left to right
as if it were a complex player piano.
It finds the top and bottom, at each point and according to those distances, in isolation, comparing them, the over-all slant, the ink to page ratio, etc. Accordingly, it chooses a key, a mode (scale), tempo, etc and writes out the notation (in 8th notes) on the staffs. It simultaneously plays samples of each note with dynamics (loudness) according to that point in the signature.
